There's something about a young rookie winning the Ward Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with Guo-liang Chen, a 20-year-old starter for the Montreal Beavers.
In June, he topped off the month with a 4-1 mark and 1.52 ERA in 7 starts, tossed 53.1 innings, fanned 49 and held opposing teams to a .178 average.
This season Chen has crafted a 8-4 mark with a 2.17 ERA in 141.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .202 against him and he has 124 strikeouts.

Cisco Maldonado exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Ballpark of Montreal. The Montreal left fielder had a field day in the 10-6 triumph over the Shreveport Prisoners, finishing with a 5-6 day and a spot in the league record book.
"My hitting philosophy is pretty simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch."
Well, Maldonado must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too. It was one of his best days ever with the bat.
C. Maldonado singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, flied out in the 7th, hit an RBI single in the 9th and hit a GRAND SLAM off J. Everly in the 11th.
Maldonado is swinging at a .239 pace on the year with 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and 22 runs scored. He has played in 53 games.

 | Wednesday, May 25th, 2016: Bargo Records Shutout Against Montreal
"Scott Bargo is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the Colorado City hurler tossed a complete game 6-hit shutout against the Montreal Beavers.
"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Bargo. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."
Bargo walked 1 and struck out 4 in the 8-0 victory.
This year Bargo has fanned 14 in 38 innings and collected a 3-1 record with a 1.89 ERA.
