| Breaking News | | Saturday, July 9th, 2016: San Marcos Hexed: No-Hit by Abarca It was a terrific day for David Abarca of the Tulsa Tornados at Tulsa Grounds. He stood out with a fantastic 8-0 no-hitter against the San Marcos Crows.
"I knew I had a No-No going in about the sixth inning, when I noticed no one was talking to me anymore," he said, referring to the time honored superstition of teammates avoiding the pitcher so they won't jinx the no-hitter. "Don't let people fool you. Everybody on the field and in the ballpark knows what's happening. They just pretend they don't."
For the game Abarca totaled 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in a very strong outing.
The Tulsa pitching coach marveled at his performance, "His mechanics were perfect and I don't think he threw one bad pitch in the whole game. He was that good."
In pitching stats this season Abarca has rung up 6 wins and 2 losses in 8 games. He has an ERA of 2.55 and has fanned 40 batters in 60 innings. | | Saturday, June 25th, 2016: Tornados Holtz Gone for Year Skene Holtz of the Tornados just might have to call it quits for the season. The 23-year-old Tulsa shortstop received a possible season-ending injury against the Charleston Sea Dogs recently at Tulsa Grounds. Holtz suffered a torn posterior cruciate ligament while running the bases. The Tornados medical staff said he could be out quite some time, as much as 7 months.
This season in 19 games Holtz is batting .156 with no home runs, 2 RBIs and has scored 3 times. | | Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016: Thornton Spins Shutout Jarred Thornton of the Anchorage Blizzard was one tough customer on the hill today. He blanked the Tulsa Tornados 2-0 on 2 hits, registering 7 strikeouts and 1 walk.
"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said the Tulsa manager after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."
This year Thornton has compiled a 6-5 record with a 2.65 ERA in 13 starts. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 48-41, .539 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 14.0 GB | | Record at home | 24-23, .511 PCT | | Record on the road | 24-18, .571 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-1, .833 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 13-9, .591 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 34-26, .567 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 14-11, .560 PCT | | Record in May | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in June | 13-13, .500 PCT | | Record in July | 5-4, .556 PCT |
