| Breaking News | | Sunday, July 24th, 2016: Albino Spins Shutout Against Atoms Robert Albino was downright nasty in pitching a 6-0 shutout against Ithaca. His splitter was diving, his slider was breaking and the Atoms were swinging and looking bad. In the solid 6-hit shutout the Diablos hurler chalked up 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.
"As the game went on, he got stronger," his manager said. "I thought he really turned it up a notch in the eighth and ninth and probably threw his best breaking balls in those two innings. They put a lot of balls in play early in the count because he was throwing strikes."
This season Albino has a 12-7 record with a 2.64 ERA in 21 starts. | | Friday, July 15th, 2016: Rodriguez Fashions Shutout Against Outlaws "Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.
In his postgame interview the Tombstone manager said, "Luciano Rodriguez made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Rodriguez had 2 strikeouts, 1 walk and allowed only 4 hits as the Ithaca Atoms whitewashed the Tombstone Outlaws 1-0.
So far this season, Rodriguez has logged a 6-10 record with a 4.74 ERA. He has started 18 games, hurled 117.2 innings and registered 51 strikeouts and 15 walks. | | Thursday, July 7th, 2016: Atoms Águila Injured The Ithaca Atoms got some bad news when the team learned that José Águila was likely to be out for 6-7 weeks after he injured himself running the bases in today's game against the Montana Mustangs. A round of tests by the team doctors revealed the injury to be a torn groin muscle. Upon learning of their diagnosis, the Ithaca manager told the press, "As you all know, we can't control injuries -- they are a part of the game. We just have to do the best we can until José is back in action."
This year Águila has socked 91 hits in 300 at-bats for a .303 average with 5 home runs. He is getting on base at a .376 pace and his totals also include 32 RBIs and 41 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | RF Sandy Richter | strained bicep tendon | one week | Not on DL | | CF José Águila | torn groin muscle | 4 weeks | On DL, eligible for return | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 59-42, .584 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 29-21, .580 PCT | | Record on the road | 30-21, .588 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 4-4, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 23-9, .719 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 12-15, .444 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 47-27, .635 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 16-9, .640 PCT | | Record in May | 17-12, .586 PCT | | Record in June | 13-12, .520 PCT | | Record in July | 13-9, .591 PCT |
