"That's one thing that has never changed in this game -- pitching can control hitting," the Nuts manager told reporters after today's game.
The Puas ran into a buzzsaw as Jeff Hardt cut them down to size 1-0 with a 3-hit shutout.
His skipper added, "He knows exactly what he's doing. He's not going to throw you a good pitch until you make him throw one."
In the complete game whitewash the Mauna Loa hurler doled out 3 walks and registered 6 strikeouts.
In the postgame press conference his catcher said, "Jeff goes out there and just goes about his business. I don't think he gets too concerned about what's going on. You can call any pitch and you know where he's going to be."
Hardt also got some praise from the Kapolei manager.
"He really kept us in check today. Everything looked to be moving. Seemed like the pitch was right down the middle and it went over down and away... we took some pathetic swings."
To date in 2014, Hardt sports a 1-3 mark with a 3.73 ERA in 5 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .270 batting average and has 28 strikeouts in 31.1 innings.

 | Wednesday, October 29th, 2014: 5-5 Day for Salsado
All game long Diamond Head's César Salsado was rattling the walls at Lava Sox Field and banging out base hits against the Mauna Loa Nuts. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Lava Sox had a 10-7 victory.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 22-year-old first baseman said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this."
C. Salsado doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off N. Mathie in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off F. Vázquez in the 9th.
In 2014 Salsado is hitting .304, batted in 8 runs with 2 home runs and 9 runs scored.
