The premier batter in the Pineapple League in 2014 was Hilo left fielder Chad Painter. For his outstanding play this season, he was selected the Hitter of the Year.
Painter ended this year with a .342 batting average, 69 hits, 8 home runs, 31 RBIs, .419 OBP and 36 runs scored.
This weekend the SBWA will host its annual awards dinner, and all of the major winners will be there to receive their trophies for their outstanding achievements this past season.

 | Friday, December 26th, 2014: Gliders Top Surfers for WWBLWL Title
The Gisborne Gliders ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Hilo Surfers 7-1 to win the Round 3.
Gisborne won the series 3-0, capturing the title for the 2nd time.
"We stepped it up at the right time...now we're the champs...it's a great feeling," the victorious manager exclaimed to the press.
The champs finished the regular season 34-20 and claimed first place in the Kiwi League Koala .
In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, the Gliders owner proudly stated, "I am so happy for our city. Our great fans deserve this. I just hope they don't tear up the town celebrating too much."

| Sunday, December 21st, 2014: Surfers Whitewash Kamalii, Franklin Winner
Buster Franklin of the Hilo Surfers was right on target when he blanked the Kamuela Kamalii 5-0, yielded 3 hits and totaled 3 walks and 8 strikeouts.
Speaking to SION reporters after the game, Franklin said, "I had everything working today and I got some help from my defense, too. They saved my butt a few times."
On his stats sheet this season Franklin shows a 5-6 record, 14 starts, 93 innings, 119 strikeouts and a 3.39 ERA.
