| Breaking News | | Friday, July 15th, 2016: Rodriguez Fashions Shutout Against Outlaws "Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage.
Well, good pitching also beats bad batting.
In his postgame interview the Tombstone manager said, "Luciano Rodriguez made us look real bad today. He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking."
Rodriguez had 2 strikeouts, 1 walk and allowed only 4 hits as the Ithaca Atoms whitewashed the Tombstone Outlaws 1-0.
So far this season, Rodriguez has logged a 6-10 record with a 4.74 ERA. He has started 18 games, hurled 117.2 innings and registered 51 strikeouts and 15 walks. | | Thursday, July 7th, 2016: Ruiz Socks 300th HR Oklahoma City defeated Tombstone today 8-5 and took some of the joy out of Ben Ruiz's 300th career home run.
"I just wanted to get a good swing on the ball all day," Ruiz said. "And I did."
Despite the loss, it was a good game for the 33-year-old Outlaws shortstop. He had 2 hits, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI.
The Twisters manager said, "You could see he was aggressive up there. The worst thing we did was throw him a strike. It probably would have been better if threw the ball outside of the strike zone every time he came to the plate because he seemed like he was in a hurry to get it over with."
In his 1794-game career Ruiz is hitting .287 with 1852 hits, 280 doubles, 44 triples and 300 home runs. He has scored 1151 runs and driven in 997. | | Sunday, July 3rd, 2016: Outlaws Crawford Smacks 5 Hits Artie Crawford was on quite a roll today as he knocked the ball all over the park, collecting 5 hits and leading the Outlaws to a 9-2 victory over the Montana Mustangs.
After the first three hits, all eyes in the ballpark were drawn to him each time he stepped into the batter's box. Even a few of the opposing fans were pulling for him, knowing they were watching a little baseball-hitting history unfold.
In the clubhouse, crowded by reporters, the Tombstone center fielder said, "I never realized that batting a little ball around could cause so much commotion." When asked what the secret of hitting so well is, he smiled and replied, "The key to hitting for a high average is to relax, concentrate and hit the ball where they ain't."
Nobody was at home today as Crawford finished the day with 5 hits in 5 at-bats and a line in the record book.
A. Crawford singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off J. Davis in the 9th.
This season Crawford has hit at a .325 clip and produced 33 RBIs, 6 home runs and 41 runs scored. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | DH Kenn Ostby | bone chips (elbow) | 3 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | P Navarro Barrantes | torn tricep muscle | 9-10 months | 32 day(s) left (60-day DL) | | CF Merrill Menzel | torn ankle ligaments | 9 months | On DL, eligible for return (60-day DL) | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 41-60, .406 PCT | | Position in Division | 4th, 17.0 GB | | Record at home | 20-30, .400 PCT | | Record on the road | 21-30, .412 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-5, .375 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 15-16, .484 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 26-44, .371 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 5-5, .500 PCT | | Record in April | 11-14, .440 PCT | | Record in May | 14-15, .483 PCT | | Record in June | 6-19, .240 PCT | | Record in July | 10-12, .455 PCT |
