Watching Jeffry Purcell getting helped off the field today at Warrior Park at Diamond Head , fans of the Hawaii Island Warriors feared the worst. The news wasn't quite as bad as initially feared, but the reliever will miss 8 weeks with a herniated disc. "We feel we've dodged a bullet. When you see a guy break down like that, you worry right away," a team spokesman said. Purcell suffered the injury throwing a pitch in the game against the Gators.
This year Purcell has chalked up a 3.18 ERA with no saves. In 9 relief appearances he has put up a 1-1 won-lost mark and struck out 13 batters in 22.2 innings.

Hawaii fans will be disappointed to learn that Natalio Cabrera developed a strained tricep muscle while throwing a pitch in today's game. After the doctor informed the Hawaii Island Warriors manager that Cabrera was expected to miss 4 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the starting pitcher could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
In the 2016 season Cabrera has recorded a 8-7 mark. In 17 starts he has fanned 93 batters in 117.1 innings with a 2.30 ERA.

Hawaii fans will be disappointed to learn that Morrison Davis developed a strained bicep muscle while throwing the ball in today's game. After the doctor informed the Hawaii Island Warriors manager that Davis was expected to miss 3 weeks, the manager told the press that the rest of the team would have to step up their play until the right fielder could return. "You can't make excuses in baseball, because there's always a game tomorrow," said the team's skipper.
In 84 games this season Davis has batted at a .307 pace with 88 hits and 5 home runs.
